LDAP search feature available in Linphone-desktop!

Primary tabs

The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is an open standard application protocol for accessing and maintaining distributed directory information services over an Internet Protocol (IP) network.
Nowadays, LDAP specifications are developed by the IETF, in specific RFCs (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4510).

In Linphone for desktop, it is now possible to easily configure one or more LDAP servers via the app settings, and securely connect to it with TLS.
Once a LDAP server is configured, the app main search bar searches both for contacts locally and remotely using the LDAP server. The contact search feature is now asynchronous, so the processing time is reduced and the app can perform other actions in parallel.
Note: this LDAP search feature can be used via the app main search bar only, not via the contacts view.

In addition, when an incoming call arrives, a LDAP search is automatically triggered to show the display name of the caller according to the LDAP directory.

LDAP integration is available publicly, since version 4.3, alpha-96.

It will be officially published in our next official release (4.3), but meanwhile anyone interested in this feature is invited to start testing the alpha versions above and report any defect.

If you are willing to finance the integration of Linphone with other protocols providing access to corporate directories, please contact us via our online contact form.
